Even though Indian Larry left
us in August of 2004, his spirit surely lives on in the bikes, shirts,
posters and other pieces that carry his mark.
Indian Larry Desmedt
gained renown as both a bike builder and as a motorcycle stunt man. His
difficult youth involved both drug problems
and a bank-robbery conviction, but he wound
up being incredibly influential in the field of bike design--for using "old
school" styling, no less.
Indian
Larry's shop, Gasoline Alley, was opened in New York
City
in 1991. Indian Larry, however, didn't get wide-ranging
recognition
for his talents until other builders, such
as Jesse James and the Teutuls, hit it big and revolutionized the market
for custom choppers. Indian
Larry went on to build
great bikes and to act and do stunts
in a number of major motion pictures.
